today i wanted to know what was the name of my computer or hostname

i have a windows and a linux(unix) machine so this is how you find what the name of the server is

LINUX:
send this command at the shell:
hostname

this will display the server name

WINDOWS:
go to the DOS prompt and type
hostname

i have microsoft windows xp, so is shows me the name of my computer
